What is IRC ?

After you have surfed the web for a while, some people start to wonder if anyone else is really out there. If this sounds familiar, Internet Relay Chat (IRC) may be just the thing you are looking for. IRC allows you to interact with people from all over the world. Chat areas are known as chat rooms. The topics of the chat rooms vary greatly. With a little background reading and the right program, IRC can be very entertaining and rewarding.

The programs that you can use are known as clients. There are many clients that you can use for different operating systems. One of the most popular is MIRC, a Windows based client. Another popular client program is MSN Messenger which is available in Internet Explorer or from Microsoft's homepage.
